LEWISTON, Idaho – For the second-straight game, the No. 5 Lewis-Clark State Men's Basketball team had to play catch-up after trailing in the second half. Double-doubles from
Trystan Bradley and
Jake Albright helped the Warriors get the job done in the 64-57 victory over Montana State-Northern.
A quick seven points by the Warriors got LC State off to a strong start. A bucket by
Hodges Bailey got the scoring started before five-straight from Bradley opened the gap to 7-0 by 17:28. A 3 by
Josiah Westbrook gave the Warriors a 17-10 lead after six minutes, but the Lights seemed to answer every LC State basket.
With 1:28 to play in the first half, MSUN tied the game 29-29 and took a 31-29 advantage into the locker room.
Travis Yenor answered an MSUN bucket to open the second half and keep the Warriors within two, and Albright put LC State back in front 41-40 at 12:55. After falling behind 47-45 with eight minutes to play, Albright found the basket again to keep the Warriors even with the Lights.
The lead changed hands multiple times over the course of the half until Bradley put the Warriors in front for good. His basket at 4:21 sparked a seven-point run, with all points coming from Bradley and Albright, to grow the LC State lead 59-51.
"I think our defense down the stretch was tighter than it was the rest of the game," Bradley said. "It should be high the whole game, but we really picked it up at the end."
Three free throws by Westbrook in the final 30 seconds helped the Warriors hang on to win 64-57.
Bradley led the Warriors with 23 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Albright led at the boards with 12 rebounds to go with 15 points and six assists. Westbrook dropped 12 points and
Damek Mitchell led the seven assists.
As a team, LC State shot 50.9 percent from the field.
David Harris led MSUN with 16 points and seven rebounds. Adam Huse dropped 15 points and Jesse Keltner grabbed seven boards.
The Warriors travel to Montana Tech on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. PT tipoff in Butte, Mont.
