LEWISTON, Idaho – The only loss of the season was overwhelmingly avenged on Friday night when the No. 5 Lewis-Clark State Men's Basketball team (22-1, 10-1) upended No. 17 Carroll College (17-7, 8-4) 78-51. The Warriors made 14 3-pointers, shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the Fighting Saints 39-29 to win in dominant fashion over the rival team.
"We are on a new level," junior
Trystan Bradley said. "Our communication is great. We were in our gaps. Our game plan never changed. We really have grasped the concept of it, bought in and stayed on the gas. We didn't give them a chance to come back. We've seen that people are capable of coming back and we didn't want that to happen."
LC State jumped out to a 5-0 lead to open the contest. A basket by Bradley and a 3 by
Travis Yenor built up momentum as the lead quickly grew to nine points four minutes in. Carroll cut the advantage to two, but a triple by
Hodges Bailey sparked a 12-point rally that included buckets from
Jake Albright and
Jaxon Hughes to push the lead back to 14 (23-9).
Josiah Westbrook and Albright each scored twice in a two minutes span to grow the advantage to 21 by 2:44, and the Warriors led by 17 (39-22) at the half.
Damek Mitchell opened the second half with a 3 to get the offense going again. Yenor made it a 25-point difference with a 3-pointer at 12:56 before giving the Warriors their largest lead of the game with two final free throws to make it 78-51.
Bailey and Yenor led the Warriors with 12 points each, while Bradley and Albright each added 10. Bradley led LC State at the boards with seven rebounds while also putting up three of the team's six blocks. Westbrook and Mitchell each dished out five assists.
As a team, LC State was 26-for-52 from the field, 14-for-31 from 3-point range and 12-for-15 from the charity stripe. The Warriors grabbed 39 rebounds and dished out 22 assists.
Dennis Flowers III led the game with 17 points and grabbed six rebounds for Carroll. Jovan Sljivancanin added 11 points and three steals.
The Warriors held Carroll to just 33.3 percent from the floor and from 3. The LC bench outscored Carroll 26-4.
Now at 22 wins on the season, the Warriors host Montana Tech on Saturday. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Activity Center.
