LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 19 Lewis-Clark State Warriors benefitted from strong starting pitching in the opening twin bill against the visiting Oregon Tech Owls on Sunday. Eric Chavarria and Brooks Juhasz both dominated on the mound, combining to give up one run in two games. LC took game one 5-1, then took advantage of Owl miscues in game two for a 13-0 victory in seven innings.
 
"The pitching was good today," coach Jake Taylor said. "In the first game Eric threw our first complete game of the year, and then Brooks was good in his second start in a row. In the first game we had some big two-out knocks to extend our lead, and in the second game we just jumped on them early."
 
GAME ONE: LCSC def. OIT 5-1
 
Chavarria erased a runner in scoring position in the top of the first with a pickoff throw to Riley Way at second.
 
Luke White put the Warriors on the board with the game's first run in the bottom of the second. He blasted a ball off of the batter's eye in dead center to put LC State up 1-0.
 
The Warriors added on in the home half of the fifth, starting with a double by Way. Caden Goldby singled with two outs to drive in a run, and a double by A.J. Davis made it 3-0.
 
Chavarria continued his solid outing, keeping the Owls off the board until the top of the eighth when OIT struck for a run.
 
Goldby led the bottom of the eighth off with a double before Coy Stout took over on the bases. Jack Johnson stretched his hitting streak to 17 games to put two on before Brock Ephan knocked in both with a double to left. The Warriors led 5-1 heading into the ninth.
 
Chavarria closed it out, going the distance for his fourth win of the season.
 
Way and Goldby led the Warriors with two hits each. Ephan knocked in two runs.
 
GAME TWO: LCSC def. OIT 13-0 (7 innings)
Jack Sheward drove in the first run of the second game in the bottom of the second. Zach Needham reached on an error for the inning's first baserunner, then took second after Dalton Harum was hit by a pitch. Sheward singled to make it 1-0.
 
Way got the third inning started with a single to right, going all the way around to third on an error. Johnson stretched his streak to 18 with an RBI single through the left side and Ephan was hit by a pitch to put two on. A walk to White loaded the bases. Aidan Nagle poked a ball through the right side to bring in a run. Needham walked to make it 4-0.
 
Harum reached on an error to bring the fifth run in, and a balk brought in the sixth. Davis kept the inning going with a bases-clearing double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Way. The Warriors totaled eight runs in the inning to jump ahead 9-0.
 
Ephan launched a ball over the wall in left center to lead off the home half of the fourth. White reached on an error. Needham doubled into the gap in left center, and Harum tripled to bring in a pair. By the end of the fifth inning, the Warriors led 13-0.
 
Brooks Juhasz continued his dominance on the mound through six innings. He allowed three hits and struck out four. Cole Acosta came on in the top of the seventh to close out the game via the 10-run rule.
 
Harum led the Warriors with three RBI in game two and eight different LC State batters recorded a hit.
 
The series concludes on Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
