LEWISTON, Idaho – Head Coach
Brian Orr announced the first signing for the class of 2022 in Middleton, Idaho's Payton Hymas. A 5-8 point guard out of Middleton High School, Hymas will join the Warriors for the 2022-23 season.
"We are thrilled to be adding Payton to our basketball program," Orr said. "She is one of those special players who has the ability to make everyone around her better. She has a high basketball IQ, makes great decisions and plays with a winner's mentality."
As a junior at Middleton, Hymas averaged 12.5 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the floor. She made 76 percent of her free throws, averaged 5.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. Hymas was named the 4A SIC Player of the Year and was a First-Team All-State selection. As a sophomore, she was voted All-State Honorable Mention, and was the All-State Sixth Man as a freshman.
"Payton has the ability to make the big play on both ends of the floor," Orr explained. "What stands out from most incoming freshman is her capacity to defend. She's just so strong. On the other end, her ability to get to rim and finish, as well as draw fouls, is going to give opponents problems. Payton is going to make an immediate impact as a freshman. The day she signed our program got better."
