NEWBURG, Ore. –The Lewis-Clark State College Women's Basketball program knocked off NCAA Division III George Fox on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. LC State pushed its record to 9-0 after a 73-45 victory on the road.
LC positioned itself out in front early and never looked back. After the Warriors stormed out to a 16-0 lead before the end of the first quarter, the Bruins never got within 10 points the rest of the contest.
The first frame saw LC State hold George Fox to zero field goals made. The Warriors, on the other hand, were off and running. After
Callie Stevens scored the first five points of the game it turned into the
Hannah Broyles show. Consecutive Broyles 3s made it 11-0, followed by a
Maddie Holm jumper and then another Broyles triple, resulting in a Bruin timeout as they needed to regroup. The first quarter ended 21-2, and Broyles had 14 points herself already.
George Fox began to push back as the second frame began and cut the lead to 13 with just over six minutes remaining in the half. The Bruins won the second quarter, 19-17, but still trailed the Warriors at the mid-way point 38-21.
The second half started with a Stevens bucket from 3-point land to expand the lead to 20. Minutes later a Holm 3 on the assist from
Adyson Clabby grew the Warrior advantage to 25. LC remained on top by as much as 29 as the third quarter finished out with an
Ellie Sander layup and a score of 61-32
LC closed out the victory over the Bruins by a score of 73-45, aide by Broyles' career-high 18-point performance. Stevens tallied 16 points in the 28-point Warrior victory. Holm narrowly missed another double-double with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Sara Muehlhausen and
Heidi Sellmann dominated the glass with seven boards apiece. Muehlhausen also tied a career-high in blocks with five. Clabby was the game leader in assists with four and Broyles snatched three steals.
"We got out to a really fast start which is always nice, especially on the road. Callie and Hannah came out on fire," Head Coach
Brian Orr explained. "Our defense was really tough, especially the first and third quarters, and that helped get us going. Definitely another total team win with everyone contributing. It was a good game to wrap up the non-conference season."
Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Eastern Oregon on Dec. 17. Links to game coverage can be found at
