LEWISTON, Idaho – LC State Men's Basketball cruised to its second Cascade Conference victory of the season on Friday night with a 103-57 rout of the Northwest University Eagles.
Silas Bennion led the 20
th-ranked Warriors with his career-high 16 points to open the weekend.
"Really pleased with our guys and their attention to detail," Head Coach
Austin Johnson said. "Tonight was ultimately a result of the week we had in practice and preparing. Silas was great at leading us and everything flowed out of his focused play. Good to get contributions from everyone. We've got a quick turnaround and need to find a way to be just dialed in tomorrow."
The Warriors opened the contest with five straight from Baker on assists from
Khalil Stevenson and
Silas Bennion.
Oreon Courtney threw down a dunk off an inbounded ball to grow the advantage to 7-2, 3-pointers by Stevenson and
Al Sommerfield capped a 13-2 opening stretch at 15:58.
Stevenson, Baker and Courtney added buckets down the stretch as the LC lead continued to grow. A 3 and two free throws by Bennion made it a 24-11 game at 9:52 before Stevenson emphasized the Warriors' command with a dunk 30 seconds later. The basket sparked a run of 10 that ended on a dunk by Courtney with LC leading 34-13 with 6:18 left in the half.
Three straight 3-pointers by
Teagen Hoard pushed the advantage to 52-21 in the final two minutes, and Bennion added another triple for LC's ninth of the half. The Warriors took a 55-27 lead into the break.
Courtney opened the second half loudly with a dunk before Baker and Stevenson went back-to-back to give LC State a 61-34 advantage. Baker made it an 8-0 run, fueling the stretch with six points. Hoard drained his fourth 3 of the contest at 12:17 as part of a 15-4 run that had the Warriors in front 80-40 by 11:13.
Five straight points by
Kai Warren kept the cushion near 40 as the clock wound down, and
Kalani Sapwell,
Will Abram and
Grant Ellison helped push LC past to the century mark, 100-54, in the last minute. A 3 by Ellison capped the Warriors' scoring as LC ran away with the 103-57 victory.
Bennion led LC in points (16) and assists (5). He was 6-for-8 from the field and 2-for-3 from 3-point range. Baker was just behind with 15 points, and Hoard added 12 on a 4-for-4 performance, all from 3. Stevenson chipped in 11 points and Courtney had 10 points and nine boards.
As a team, the Warriors shot 64.2 percent (43-for-67) from the field and drained 13 3-pointers.
Rayvaughn Bolton led Northwest with nine points and Carson Sparks grabbed four boards.
The Warriors held the Eagles to 37.7 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from behind the arc.
LC State hosts Evergreen State on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Activity Center.
