LEWISTON, Idaho - The No. 4 LC State Men's Basketball team came out red hot against the Multnomah Lions in the first meeting between the two teams this season. When all was said and done, the Warriors trounced the Lions 124-75.
 
Seven different Warriors scored in the double digits in the game. Oreon Courtney led LC State with 20 points, while Trystan Bradley and Damek Mitchell scored 19 points apiece.
 
The Lions, playing their first game of the season, held with the Warriors to a five-point lead for the first five minutes. LC State then went on a 21-0 run and to go up 39-13. LC did not look back from there.
 
To say everything clicked on all cylinders tonight would be an understatement. In the first half, the Warriors shot an eye-popping 71.05 percent from the floor. LC State got good looks all night and made the shots fall.
 
With the Warriors in control early on, it was a good opportunity for some of the underclassmen to gain experience on the floor and gain key minutes. The freshmen on the LC State roster, consisting of Silas Bennion, Oreon Courtney, Colton Spencer, Brennen Newsom, Will Abram and Sam Stockton, put up a combined 63 of the 124 overall points.
 
"Our guys did a really good job guarding their drives and not over collapsing (on the 3-point fakes)," Coach Austin Johnson said in regards to their defensive efforts. Johnson went on to praise senior guard Hodges Bailey for how well we defended Zach Richardson from Multnomah's drives and forced him to use his weaker hand.
 
The Warriors shot 62.7 percent overall from the floor (52-for-83), 35.7 percent from 3 (10-for-28) and 62.5 percent from the foul line (10-for-16). The Warrior men capitalized on MU's mistakes by scoring 23 points off of turnovers and put up another 13 points off of second-chance put backs. The LC State bench contributed a healthy 60 points to the onslaught of offense in the Activity Center.
 
The Warrior men will finish out the series against Multnomah tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the LC State Activity Center.
