LEWISTON, Idaho – The 22
nd-ranked LC State Men's Tennis team faced stiff competition on Saturday afternoon in a battle with NCAA DI Idaho. Though they fell 0-7, the match proved to be a good learning experience for the newest members of the team.
"This was a very much-needed match for us, especially for the newcomers to see a different level of physical play," Head Coach
Kai Fong said. "Idaho had big hitters all throughout their lineup. Next weekend, we will face a similar barrage of power players when we host Boise State and Seattle U."
LC State put up a strong fight in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, taking four games in the 4-6 losses.
William Bruchard and
Itaru Kikuchi teamed up in the top spot, while Andy Wy and
Gunnar Harlan competed in the third slot.
In singles play, both Bruchard (No. 1 singles) and Kikuchi (No. 2 singles) took six games in their matches. Bruchard dropped his contest 4-6, 2-6, and Kikuchi fell 2-6, 4-6.
"Every match is a learning match for us," Fong explained. "Our players are understanding how much harder they will have to work from here on out."
The next set of matches for the Warriors are slated for March 6. LC will take on NCAA DI programs Boise State and Seattle U starting at 9 a.m.
