CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 22 Warrior women stunned No. 6 Carroll College in the Activity Center on Saturday night to punch their ticket to Sioux City, Iowa and the 2021 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Round of 16. LC State came out of the locker room with its foot on the gas and did not let up in the 76-67 victory.
The Warriors outscored Carroll 18-9 in the first 10 minutes and held off a late run to win the first-ever NAIA Basketball Opening Round in Lewiston.
Kiara Burlage set the tone for the Warriors with a 3-pointer in the first 20 seconds. She led all scorers in the contest with 27 points.
Jansen Edmiston and
Abbie Johnson each scored 15 points and
Abby Farmer added 13. Freshman
Maddie Holm dominated the boards with a career-high 11 rebounds, and
Peyton Souvenir ran the offense with seven assists.
LC State shot 44.6 percent from the floor and made 19 free throws (19-for-22). The Warriors held Carroll to 32.9 percent from the floor and just 13.8 percent from 3-point range.
The Warrior women defeated William Jessup 73-44 on Friday to get to the Opening Round Championship game. LC earned the No. 14 seed at the final site and will face third-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday at 11 a.m. PT.
