SALEM, Ore. – The Lewis-Clark State Volleyball team faced a tough challenge for the second night in a row in No. 14 Corban University. In what seemed to be a completely different matchup then the previous night, the Corban Warriors swept the LC State Warriors 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17).
"Nothing was really working tonight," Head Coach
Shaun Pohlman said. "We needed the block we had last night against them, but we couldn't get our team to make the necessary adjustments on the block.
"Hats off to Corban for adjusting its block and serve compared to last night," Pohlman continued. "They made it really difficult for us to run our offense, and with being a setter down, we were already in an unfamiliar situation to where we really couldn't get anything going."
LC State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on a pair of kills by
Chloe Emory, but Corban bounced back to storm ahead 10-5. The visiting Warriors kept the score within six points throughout the set before a kill by Emory and Corban error cut the deficit to 18-14. Corban continued to roll to a 25-19 victory in the set.
A Corban error put LC State up 1-0 to start the second set, but the home team quickly reset and pulled ahead 6-2. A kill by
Tori Edwards on an assist from
Kendzee Cloward tied the set 8-8, but a seven-point run put Corban back in control at 18-9. They took the set 25-17.
Corban came out firing in the third set with a 4-1 advantage. A short burst by LC State with kills by Edwards and
Jada Wyms cut the deficit to 6-5, but blocks by Corban fueled a run to push its lead to 16-8. They repeated the previous set score and won 25-17.
Emory led the Warriors with 12 kills and
Hannah Martinez dealt 26 assists.
Kenzie Dean tallied 13 digs and Cloward had 11.
The Warriors host College of Idaho on March 26 and 27 in the Activity Center. Friday's match is slated for 7 p.m.
