YANKTON, S.D. – Every female competitor that LC State sent to the 2021 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships will return to Lewiston as an All-American. The Warriors earned a total of nine All-America honors in Friday's final, including both the 4x400m and 4x800m relays and
Ashley Britt in the 600m.
"I am so very proud of these young ladies," Head Coach
Mike Collins said. "This will be our first time ever taking home double-digit numbers in All-American awards and it was done totally by our women. Hopefully the men will add a few more tomorrow, but today belongs to the ladies."
The 4x800m relay team of
Emily Adams,
Rylee Brown,
Maja Plaznik and
Geraldin Correa put together a strong race and shaved four seconds off their time in the prelims to finish fourth overall at 9:27.58. Adams got the Warriors started before handing off to Brown who moved the team into the lead pack. Plaznik kept LC in the mix before Correa closed it out. This is the second All-American title for Brown and Plaznik in the event after doing so two years ago.
Britt began her day in the 600m dash. In just the third 600m run of her career, the sophomore finished eighth in the nation (1:39.42) to capture her first All-American title in her career, but she did not stop there.
Britt anchored the 4x400m relay just hours later and helped the Warrior women to an eighth-place finish.
Karlie Smith took the first leg for LC, followed by
Rebekka Kalmbach and local product
Anika Grogan before handing off to Britt for another All-American finish (3:57.23).
Including
Madi Carson's seventh-place finish in the pole vault, the Warriors collected 10 All-American titles in women's events. Clayton Vandyke and Cole Olsen will compete on Saturday for their shots at national honors. VanDyke will race in the 1,000m final at 11 a.m. PT and Olsen will run in the 5,000m final at 1 p.m. PT.
