EDMOND, Okla. – Lewis-Clark State College senior Lauren Hamm shot a 6-over-par 78 Tuesday in the first round of the 26th annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championship at the Rose Creek Golf Course.
 
Hamm, who is from Ferndale, Wash., is the only Warrior competing at nationals, which features 156 golfers, including 30 teams and six individuals vying for titles.
 
Hamm teed off on the back nine to start her round on Tuesday and had bogeys on the 12th and 14th holes on her way to a 38. Her problem area came on the first three holes of the front nine when she went bogey, bogey, and double bogey. She also bogeyed the eighth hole but finished her round with a birdie.
 
Hamm is tied for 62nd place after the opening round.
 
Hamm played with Gurman Knight of William Jessup, who shot a 3-under-par 69 and is in a three-way tie for the individual lead. Hamm and Knight will again play in the same threesome on Wednesday when they tee off on the first hole at 12:30 p.m., PST.
 
After Wednesday's round, the field will be cut for the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday. In the past, the cut line was below the top 70 individuals.
 
The weather forecast for Wednesday's round calls for temperatures in the high 80s with a 25 percent chance of rain.
