LEWISTON, Idaho – The LC State Baseball team bounced back in a big way on Saturday, following their loss on Friday night. The Warriors shutout the Concordia Neb. Bulldogs behind a solid eight innings from
Trent Sellers and a 10-run output by the offense. With the 10-0 victory, LC State advances to Monday morning's elimination game.
"It is always a tough turnaround from the late-night loss and playing twice in less than 24 hours, but I was happy with our response today," Head Coach
Jake Taylor said. "We were able to give Trent a bit of a cushion and he settled in and pitched his best game of the year thus far."
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first with an RBI single by
Aidan Nagle.
Riley Way and
Jack Johnson opened the inning with back-to-back hits before Way scored on Nagle's knock.
Trent Sellers sat the Bulldogs down in order in the home half of the inning.
LC State continued to hit the ball well in the second frame.
Matt James reached on a walk and was lifted for a courtesy runner in
Alex Light.
Dalton Harum doubled to put both in scoring position. A fielder's choice off the bat of Way plated the first run of the inning. A double by Johnson and triple by Nagle pushed the scored to 5-0 in favor of the Warriors.
James drew another walk to open another strong LC inning in the third and was lifted for Light on the bases. A wild throw on a pickoff attempt put Light on third and
A.J. Davis walked. Johnson drove in one and
Brock Ephan brought in two more to make it a 9-0 game.
A home run by Harum on the first pitch of the ninth inning capped the scoring at 10-0.
Sellers was spectacular through his eight innings of work. The sophomore struck out seven in his outing and did not allow a run.
Brooks Juhasz closed out the game.
Johnson led LC State with three hits while Nagle knocked in four runs.
"We will need to be more consistent throughout the lineup with our approach as we move forward in the tournament," Taylor said. "I feel that we have some guys trying to do too much. We will be ready to go on Monday morning."
The Warriors advance to Monday and will face the loser of Southeastern/LSU Shreveport at 8:30 a.m.
