LC State Rolls Past Wolves in Dominant Fashion

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Warrior Volleyball team (7-6, 2-3) came to play on Tuesday night with a dominant victory over the visiting Walla Walla University Wolves. LC State was an offensive force with 40 kills and a .508 attack percentage in the three set (25-14, 25-16, 25-2) landslide.

"We've talked about maturity and taking pride in what we do no matter the opponent," Head Coach Shaun Pohlman said. "We had a few mental lapses but overall, we are in a better place as a whole. We just need to keep working and improving our craft."

After Walla Walla evened the first set 4-4, the Warriors took off in a hurry to take control. Hannah Martinez made nine serves in a row as LC tallied three blocks and four kills. Kills by Cassidy Nelson, Jennah Carpenter and Tori Edwards fueled a four-point run to grow the lead to 20-7. The Warriors took the first set 25-14.

The momentum carried over into set two as Josie Peters and Katie Rainville went back-to-back before an ace by Martinez gave the Warriors a 5-3 advantage. A four-point rally featuring kills by Peters and Kierstyn York kept the ball rolling at 9-4, and another stretch of four, fueled by kills by Hallie Seaman and York as well as a pair of aces by Lexi Trowbridge, pushed the score to set point. A kill by York ended the set at 25-16.

LC State rattled off 22 straight points in a dominant third set and allowed only two to close out the match.

Peters led LC State with eight kills at a .778 attack percentage. Nelson added seven on seven swings, and Martinez dished a team-leading 16 assists. Kenzie Dean was solid with 12 digs and five service aces.

Gabrielle Browning was Walla Walla's leader in kills on the night with six. Anja Cole had four assists and Alex Wiedemann tallied six digs.

As a team, the Warriors put up an attack percentage of .508 and held WWU to -.177. LC tallied 40 kills compared to Walla Walla's nine.

The Warriors continue their home stand on Friday against Northwest at 7 p.m. in the Activity Center. A streaming package can be purchased online at lcwarriors.com/watch, and tickets to the match can be purchased on lcwarriors.com.
