Wyms Leads Warriors to 3-1 Victory over Warner Pacific

LEWISTON, Idaho – The LC State Volleyball team (10-6, 5-3) defeated Warner Pacific 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15) in the Activity Center on Friday night. Senior Jada Wyms led the team with a season-high 18 kills and kept the energy levels high on the court for the Warriors.

The night also featured the return of freshman Grecia Ung Enriquez, who contributed six kills with an attack percentage of .462 in three sets.

"It was great seeing Jada step up and have a great night," Assistant Coach Drew Choules said. "It was also great to have Grecia back on the floor. As a whole, we are still working towards having consistency within our team, and we will continue to work on that every day."

Wyms answered a WPU kill with one of her own to get the momentum going early on for the Warriors. Carli Berntson added a kill on an assist from Jess Ruffing to give the Warriors the lead at 3-2. Kills by Tori Edwards and Channa Hart, followed by an attack error by the Knights, extended the LC State advantage to 6-3. Shortly after, the Warriors put together a run of five that featured a kill by Wyms and a block by Wyms and Peters to grow the margin to 11-4.

Berntson and Wyms added a pair of kills before teaming up on a block that extended the lead to 14-7. Wyms contributed two more kills, and two kills from Edwards kept the Warriors in front 22-16. A kill from Cassidy Nelson and a block from the duo of Wyms and Berntson gave LC State the 25-18 victory.

Warner Pacific built momentum early on in the second set with six straight points. A four-point run featuring two kills from Nelson, two kills from Hart, and a block by the pair helped the Warriors climb back into the frame. Four more kills from Wyms in the set aided the LC State comeback as the Warriors edged WPU by a score of 25-23.

The two teams went back and forth in the third set. Wyms, Nelson, Hart and Edwards each tallied a kill to keep the LC State within one at 5-4. Kills from Wyms and Berntson, as well as blocks by Wyms and Berntson and Hart and Berntson, gave the Warriors the lead at 12-11. The two teams continued to battle it out until WPU edged LC 25-23.

The Warriors turned things around with a dominate win in set four. A run of five, fueled by kills from Wyms, Bernston, Ung Enriquez, and an ace from Ruffing gave LC State the 6-1 advantage. A four-point rally stretched the lead to seven at 11-4, before another run of four, sparked by a kill from Ung Enriquez, made it a 22-10 game. A kill by Hart ended the match with a 25-15 win.

Wyms led the match with a season-high 18 kills, and Nelson added 11. Ruffing led in assists with 24 and Kenzie Dean added 23 digs. Hart had an impressive .533 attack percentage and Ung Enriquez did as well, with .462. Berntson led the defense at the net with seven blocks, and Wyms chipped in six.
