LEWISTON, Idaho – Despite sharp 3-point shooting from
Colton Spencer and a career-high tying performance from
Khalil Stevenson, it was the Corban Warriors that emerged victorious in the P1FCU Activity Center on Friday night. The visiting Warriors earned an 88-78 win, moving LC State to 13-5 overall and 6-4 in Cascade Conference play.
"We are thankful our administration allowed us to play this weekend," Head Coach
Austin Johnson said. "It was good to see our guys have the opportunity to play. All credit to Corban as they dominated the game in every facet. We'll need to be much better tomorrow against a very good Bushnell team."
Al Sommerfield opened the contest with a jumper before
Kevin Baker added a 3-pointer to give LC a 5-4 lead two minutes in. Corban answered to take an 8-5 lead, but a triple from Sommerfield and layup from Baker kept LC ahead by a slim margin.
Back-to-back 3s by Spencer kept the LC Warriors in the middle of a back-and-forth battle, and a third by the guard tied things up 21-21 with 5:26 to play in the half. Corban took the lead on a six-point rally and never looked back.
A 3-pointer by Stevenson brought the hosting Warriors within six five minutes into the second half, but that was as close as LC would come for the remainder of the game.
Stevenson led the offense for LC State with a career-high tying 22 points including four 3s. Spencer shattered his pervious personal-best with 21 points including a career-high six 3-pointers.
Sam Stockton led LC State with nine rebounds and five assists. Baker added 13 points and five boards.
As a team, LC State shot 52.8 percent from the floor and 44.8 percent from 3-point range.
Mateo Escheik led Corban with 25 points and Psalm Maduakor grabbed 11 rebounds.
