Career Nights for Stevens and Holm Lead LC Past Warner Pacific

LEWISTON, Idaho Callie Stevens and Maddie Holm each put together one of their strongest games of the season in a hard-fought victory over Warner Pacific University on Monday night. The sophomore duo helped lead LC State Women's Basketball (12-1, 6-1) past a strong Knights team in an 82-71 win in Cascade Conference play.

Stevens struck for the first five LC State points on a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer to tie things up early in the contest. Triples by Hannah Broyles and Heidi Sellmann gave the Warriors a three-point edge by the 3:55 mark, and a layup by Adyson Clabby had LC ahead 19-16 after the first 10 minutes.

The Warriors opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run, fueled by 3s from Ellie Sander and Rachel Schroeder, to grow the lead to 27-18 at 6:23. The teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the half and LC held a slim 46-43 advantage at the break.

Warner Pacific rallied to take a four-point lead over the Warriors three minutes into the third quarter. Three straight LC baskets by Sara Muehlhausen, Sellmann and Stevens brought it back to a two-point lead, and baskets by Holm, Broyles and Clabby made it a six-point game, 61-55, with 2:39 left in the frame.

Back-to-back baskets by Muehlhausen gave LC State a 77-69 advantage in the final two minutes of the contest, and six straight foul shots, four by Stevens and two by Holm, closed out the game with the Warriors ahead 82-71.

Stevens led the Warriors with a career-high 23 points and had personal-bests in free throws made (7) and assists (7). Holm grabbed a career-high 17 boards to lead the contest and added 14 points for her second straight double-double. Muehlhausen chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Off the bench, Clabby scored nine points on a personal-best four field goals and dished out a career-high three assists.

As a team, the Warriors shot 52.7 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from 3-point range. LC drained 14 of 16 free throws and outrebounded WPU 44-33.

LC State hits the road this weekend for contests at Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon. The SOU Raiders currently sit above the Warriors in the CCC standings in the top spot. The Warriors open the weekend in Klamath Falls, Ore., against OIT on Friday before heading to SOU on Saturday. Links to coverage can be found at lcwarriors.com.
