Warrior Volleyball Keeps Rolling with Sweep of Oregon Tech

LEWISTON, Idaho. – The Warriors ended the Homecoming homestand on a high note with a sweep (25-18, 25-20, 25-15) of Oregon Tech on Saturday. LC State Volleyball repeated its block total from the night before with 11 and hit at a clip of .296. With the victory, LC improves to 12-6 overall and 8-5 in Cascade Conference play.

"I love this team and I love where we are right now," Head Coach Shaun Pohlman said. "We are getting better and continuing to find ways to get better. We need to continue to stay diligent in our preparations and approach to our opponents.

"We have a tough couple of weeks ahead of us and we need to continue to improve daily and take advantage of our opportunities to play every day not just on match days," Pohlman added. "If we can stay healthy and mature during these times, the benefits and rewards later can be reaped. We can't control injuries, but we can control complacency.  If we get complacent, teams will jump on that as an opportunity to push us back. We need to keep our hard hats on and keep working."

It was another standout night for Grecia Ung Enriquez and Lisi Langi. The pair combined for 20 kills, while Ung Enriquez dealt four service aces. Jada Wyms was a wall at the net with six blocks including two solos.

OIT struck first with a quick 2-0 burst to open the match, but Owl errors and a block by Jada Wyms and Langi put LC ahead 3-2. Oregon Tech battled to tie things up 7-7, but a kill by Carli Berntson, ace by Ashlee Bachman and block by Wyms and Berntson gave LC an 11-7 advantage. Cassidy Nelson and Langi went back-to-back to force an OIT timeout at 13-8.

A pair of kills by Langi, followed by a kill and ace by Ung Enriquez, kept the margin at five (18-13), and Langi ended the set shortly after with a kill at 25-18.

The Warriors went on a four-point run after trailing 3-2 in the second frame, fueled by kills by Ung Enriquez and an ace by Vanja Tomic. OIT regained its momentum to jump in front 10-8, but back-to-back swings by Wyms and Langi evened the score at 10 each.

Wyms sparked a 5-1 run that was aided by a kill by Ung Enriquez and block by Channa Hart and Ung Enriquez to give LC State a 15-12 advantage. The Warriors struck for a run of six straight that featured a kill and two aces by Ung Enriquez, as well as back-to-back kills by Nelson, to move the score to a commanding 23-17 lead. Berntson teamed up with Hart on a block before tallying a kill to end the set 25-20.

The LC State momentum carried over to a quick third set. A kill by Ung Enriquez sparked an 8-1 rally that gave the Warriors an 11-6 cushion early in the frame. Hart contributed a solo block in the stretch, Tomic dealt an ace, Berntson tallied two kills and Hart and Ung Enriquez capped the run with a block.

The Warriors struck for seven straight points after OIT crept within two at 16-14. Langi tallied a kill to get things rolling before teaming up with Wyms on a pair of blocks. Ung Enriquez added a kill before two straight swings from Langi ended in kills for a 23-14 lead. Wyms and Langi went back-to-back with kills to end the match at 25-15.
