OLYMPIA, Wash. – The LC State Men's Basketball team bounced back on Saturday behind another big night from
Davian Brown. The Warriors defeated Evergreen State by a final of 80-56 led by the sophomore's 18 points.
With the win, LC State improves to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in Cascade Conference play.
"Proud of the guys for bouncing back," Head Coach
Austin Johnson said. "We were much more connected defensively which allowed us to get some easy baskets in transition. We've got a lot to work on, but I am excited to see who this group decides to become."
Grayson Hunt put up the first points of the night for the Warriors, and LC answered an Evergreen basket with six straight points with buckets by
Silas Bennion,
Oreon Courtney and Brown to take an 8-2 lead by 16:59.
Brown drained back-to-back 3s to cap the 12-point rally with the Warriors in front 14-2 at 15:35 before a seven-point burst by Evergreen cut the lead to 14-9.
Anthony Peoples Jr. snapped the run with two jumpers to push the advantage back out to 18-9 at 11:56, and a triple by
John Lustig made it 21-11 30 seconds later.
Bennion kept the lead in double-digits with a layup and 3-pointer to push the cushion to 30-17 by 8:21.
Sam Stockton and Brown added to the offensive total to make it 36-22 with 5:00 left in the half.
Erick Chaney drained a pair of 3s and Lustig added one for a nine-point run to grow the LC State advantage to 46-23 with 2:41 on the clock.
Peoples Jr. added a final bucket in the half to send LC State into halftime leading 48-29.
The Geoducks started the second half with a 3 and
Keegan Crosby answered with a jumper at 18:18 to put the LC lead at 50-32. LC and TESC matched baskets through a back-and-forth period with Brown, Crosby and Bennion adding tallies along the way. Lustig put together a string of baskets to swing the momentum back to the Warriors and push the margin back out to 63-43 with 8:24 to play.
Lustig drilled a 3 before Courtney and
Will Abram added baskets heading into the final minutes of the contest. Another basket by Abram made it 72-50 in favor of LC State with 3:49 to go, and free throws by Courtney made it a 22-point lead shortly after.
Brown, Abram and Stockton helped seal the deal with points in the final three minutes in the 80-56 victory.
Brown led the contest with 18 points and Lustig added 13. Stockton led the defense with seven rebounds in a game where every Warrior scored and grabbed a board.
The Warriors shot .485 from the field with nine 3-pointers. LC outrebounded TESC 40-29.
