LEWISTON, Idaho – The fourth-ranked LC State Baseball team scored 10 runs for the sixth straight game on Friday in a 10-2 rout of NCAA Division II Central Washington. The Warriors tallied 16 hits to back up a combined two-hit performance by the pitching staff.
Trent Sellers fanned four in six innings and allowed only one hit, and
Cameron Smith and
Greg Blackman wrapped up the game.
Riley Way,
Nick Seamons and
Zach Threlfall each notched three hits.
After a strikeout by Sellers to start the game,
Coy Stout started a double play to make it a quick inning for LC State. The Warriors struck for the game's first run in the second with an RBI-double by Threlfall to plate
Luke White.
Threlfall knocked in LC's second run with a sacrifice fly to bring in
Matt James and make it 2-0 in the fourth. The senior made it 3-0 with an RBI-single in the sixth.
The Warriors added a pair of runs in the home half of the seventh, fueled by three straight hits by
A.J. Davis,
Aidan Nagle and
Sam Linscott to lead off the inning. Linscott's single brought in one before a sacrifice fly by Seamons brought Nagle across to make it 5-0.
CWU struck for its first runs of the game with a pair in the top of the eighth, but LC responded with a five spot in the bottom of the frame.
Way reached on a single to start the inning, and Davis took first on a hit-by-pitch. Nagle drove in one with a base hit to left and a fielder's choice put Linscott on to load the bases. Seamons cleared things up with a three-RBI double down the left field line, and a single by Threlfall capped the inning.
Blackman sat the Wildcats down in order in the top of the ninth.
Way, Seamons and Threlfall led the offense with three hits each, and Seamons and Threlfall each knocked in four. Sellers fanned four in his six innings, Smith struck out one and Blackman added two punchouts.
The Warriors continue the series with CWU with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
