LEWISTON, Idaho – Warrior Men's Tennis defeated NCAA Division III Whitman College for the second time this season after picking up a 6-1 victory in the Tennis Center on Saturday. Daniel Tevez tallied a pair of wins, with victories in both No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles.
 
"The men, at one point or another, were down in every match," coach Ryan LaPlante explained. "They showed a lot of resiliency and they had to overcome a lot of adversity, especially after losing in the doubles point. It was great to see them keep their noses to the grindstone."
 
The Blues picked up the doubles point after taking the top two matches. Tevez teamed up with Austin Gomez to earn a win at No. 3 doubles, but the Warriors entered singles play trailing 1-0.
 
LC State battled back to take all six singles matches. Both Itaru Kikuchi (No. 2 singles) and Austin Swing (No. 3 single) dropped just five games en route to their wins. Cade Edwards fought through a tough first set before finishing his opponent off quickly (7-5, 6-1) in No. 4 singles. Senior William Bruchard battled through three sets to take down his top singles matchup.
 
"William showed a lot of maturity as one of the leaders on the team," LaPlante said. "After losing the first set quite quickly, it can be easy for it to shake one's confidence, but he got after it and fought hard from the second set on. Itaru made adjustments early in the first set, which helped him to a quick finish.
 
"The two freshmen, and roommates, had impressive outings from the third and fourth spot. Austin Swing and Cade Edwards showed a lot of grit and hopefully will be making an impact on the team for years to come."
