CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 3 LC State Warriors wrapped up the non-conference road series with College of Idaho with a 10-5 victory to complete the sweep. Warrior Baseball used two four-run innings to push past the Yotes, and had a strong performance by
Alec Holmes in relief.
The Yotes took an early 3-0 lead with a pair of hit batters and a three-run home run off the bat of Ben Dudley. C of I held LC hitless until the top of the third, and the Warriors capitalized with four runs.
Riley Way and
Aidan Nagle both reached before
Sam Linscott knocked in a run with a base hit to left.
Luke White stepped to the plate next and crushed a three-run shot to dead center to put LC in front 4-1.
C of I evened the score in the next half inning with Dudley's second big fly of the game. LC answered with two in the fourth on a two-run homer run by
Coy Stout.
A.J. Davis singled to put a runner on before Stout drilled a pitch over the wall in left to make it 6-4.
Harrison Grow came on in relief in the bottom of the fifth and struck out two in the inning. After a C of I run in the sixth,
Alec Holmes was handed the ball.
Justin Mazzone threw out a runner trying to take second, and Holmes fanned two to end the inning.
Holmes struck out two more over the next two innings to keep the Warriors in front. LC added four insurance runs, all with two outs, in the top of the ninth to pull away from C of I.
Linscott singled up the middle to start the rally and stole second. Mazzone walked before
Jaden Phillips wore a pitch to load the bases. A walk to Davis brought in a run, and a single by Stout knocked in two more. A double steal by Stout and Davis made it a 10-5 game.
Holmes struck out one in the ninth and let the defense do the rest to close out the game. He earned his first win of the season after going four innings, striking out five and not allowing a run.
Stout led the Warriors with three hits and four RBI. Linscott and Davis each had two hits and White drove in three.
Day struck out eight in four innings, Grow fanned two to bring the LC total to 15.
The Warriors take on Central Washington in a midweek doubleheader in Ellensburg starting at noon.
