KANSAS CITY, Mo. – LC State Women's Basketball sophomore guard
Callie Stevens capped an impressive season with an NAIA Third-Team All-American nod, announced by the national office on Friday. The Puyallup, Wash., native, who missed nearly all of last season due to injury, bounced back in a big way to lead the Warriors to a Cascade Conference title and CCC Player of the Year honors.
"It's nice to see Callie get recognition for all her hard work and dedication," Head Coach
Brian Orr said. "She had one of the best overall seasons of any player in our program's history, and we are excited to see what her future holds."
Stevens recorded an outstanding first full season on the court, leading the Cascade Conference in scoring (18.3 points per game), total points (568) and 3-pointers made (91). Her 3-point total is tied for the second-best in a single season in program history, while her point total is eight-best, and her scoring average ranks ninth. The guard also led the team in 3-point percentage (.394) and free throws made (83).
The most dangerous player in the conference from 3-point range, Stevens could seemingly shoot from anywhere and make a basket. She shot .457 from the floor and recorded two 30-point games. Stevens tallied at least 20 points in 15 games during the season, made six 3s in a game once and five 3s in a game twice.
Stevens was voted the Cascade Conference Player of the Week four times and was named First-Team All-Cascade Conference on top of her Player of the Year honor. In the Opening Round Championship game against No. 8 Wayland Baptist, she led the Warriors with 22 points and was voted to the NAIA Opening Round All-Tournament Team at the Plainview, Texas site.
