LEWISTON, Idaho – LC State starting pitching was solid on Sunday to help the No. 4 Warriors to two shutouts. Lefty
Dawson Day and righty
Drake Borschowa both had strong outings, with Day striking out eight in six innings and Borschowa fanned seven in seven innings. Senior
Matt James had a strong day at the plate with two home runs, bringing in two of LC's three runs on the day.
Obviously, our pitching today was dominant," Head Coach
Jake Taylor said. "Dawson and Drake were great in their starts, and then Greg (Blackman) and Bryson (Spagnuolo) were great out of the pen."
GAME ONE: LC State def. Corban 2-0
Day fanned four straight between the first and second innings, including all three batters in a 10-pitch second frame.
The LC Warriors grabbed the lead in the home half of the third.
Justin Mazzone doubled to spark the offense in the inning and was lifted for courtesy runner
Coy Stout. A walk to
Riley Way advanced Stout before a single by
Aidan Nagle made it 1-0.
James drilled his fourth home run of the season, and second of the weekend, to push the advantage to 2-0 in the fourth. Day ended the top of the fifth with a pair of strikeouts.
Greg Blackman took over on the mound in the seventh and held Corban off the board to earn the save. He struck out two in his three innings.
Day finished his day after six innings with eight punchouts. He allowed only one hit and needed just 73 pitches.
LC State tallied five hits in the game with RBI from Nagle and James. Way,
Zach Threlfall and Mazzone all legged out doubles.
GAME TWO: LC State def. Corban 1-0
James launched his second home run of the day in the second inning to put the hosting Warriors up 1-0. Borschowa worked efficiently through his seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Bryson Spagnuolo came on in the eighth and struck out two to work out of a jam and keep Corban off the board. He closed out the contest for a six-out save.
Luke White finished the game with three hits, while James had the lone RBI. Borschowa earned his third win of the season and Spagnuolo clinched his second save.
The Warriors travel to Caldwell next weekend for a non-conference series at College of Idaho. Action begins on Friday.
