Sellers’ Historic Start Leads to Warriors’ 28th Straight Win

PORTLAND, Ore. Trent Sellers put on one of his best performances in an LC State uniform to help secure the No. 3 Warriors' historic victory on Friday against Corban. The junior became the first LC State pitcher since 2018 to throw a complete-game shutout, doing so in one-hit fashion. The win is the 28th LC State victory in a row which breaks the program record for longest winning streak, set back in 1986.

"Trent obviously turned in our best pitching performance of the season thus far," Head Coach Jake Taylor said. "He was outstanding from the first pitch to the last."

Sellers was one hit shy of perfection with the only base runner reaching on a single in the fourth inning. The righty did not walk a batter and fanned 14, the most since Connor Brogdon in 2017. He faced 28 in the Warriors' 28th straight win, the least amount of batters faced in a nine-inning contest in program history. Sellers retired 16 in a row during the game, one short of the LC record.

Offensively, Aidan Nagle did most of LC State's damage at the plate with a pair of home runs. The senior put LC State on the board early with a solo shot in the top of the first, and three 1-2-3 innings by Sellers kept the visiting Warriors in front 1-0.

Nagle homered in his second straight at-bat, plating A.J. Davis after a leadoff single, to grow the advantage to 3-0 in the fourth.

After allowing a hit in the Corban half of the fourth, Sellers returned to the mound and retired the side in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh.

LC capitalized on Corban miscues in the eighth after a walk to Sam Linscott. Luke White singled up the middle and an errant throw by the center fielder brought in a run, and Sellers fanned three in the home half of the inning. He sat Corban down quickly in the ninth to earn his eighth win of the season.

Riley Way and Nagle each had three hits and Nagle drove in three runs.

The Warriors are now 34-1 on the season and 5-0 in Cascade Conference play. The series with Corban continues on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon on the campus of the University of Portland.
