LEWISTON, Idaho –
William Bruchard, LC State Men's Tennis' No. 1 singles player, made his last match in the Tennis Center one to remember on Thursday night when the senior upset the top singles player from NCAA Division I Idaho State in straight sets. Though the Warriors dropped the match, the energy around the team's leader was electric as the match drew to a 6-3, 6-3 close.
"On paper, I am not the favorite in that match," Bruchard said, "so it feels good to win. When I was realized I was winning the match, I just went for it. It feels good to go out with my first, and last, win against a DI school. It's a cool feeling."
Bruchard jumped in front of his opponent 2-1 through the first three games before the momentum carried his to a 6-3 win. He closed out the second set in the same fashion.
"I am very happy for William to notch a sweet straight-set victory against a very talented counterpart," Head Coach
Kai Fong said. "William played with a lot of poise against a smooth-hitting opponent. What a nice feather in his cap to complete his final season."
LC dropped all three doubles matches, including a tightly contested No. 1 doubles match. Idaho State took the other six singles contests.
