LEWISTON, Idaho – Six players reached double figures and the Lewis-Clark State Warriors put up a season-high in points and rebounds in a 107-76 win over the Evergreen State Geoducks.
Freshmen
Grayson Hunt and
John Lustig led the way with 16 points apiece. For Hunt it was a career-high that topped a 13-point performance on Jan. 6 versus Warner Pacific. The Pullman graduate was 8-of-9 from the field.
Sophomores
Davian Brown (15),
Silas Bennion (13) and
Sam Stockton (10) along with freshman
Erick Chaney (11) also reached double figures on a night that 12 different players scored.
"We were able to get it inside offensively for some high percentage looks which also slowed down their transition," Lewis-Clark State coach
Austin Johnson said. "It was good to see everyone get in the game and bring something to the table."
The win improved the Warriors' record to 7-10 on the season and 4-7 in the Cascade Conference.
Lewis-Clark State controlled the boards all game long, finishing with a 59-31 rebound advantage. It is the most rebounds in a game this season for the team and the most since the Warriors pulled in 67 against Multnomah last season.
It was a total team effort as 10 different LC State players brought down at least three boards. Stockton led the way with eight rebounds.
"Glad our guys found a way tonight," Johnson said. "It was a choppy game with Evergreen mixing up defenses, but I thought our start to the second half was really good."
It was a game of runs early as Brown and Bennion both hit layups, followed by another layup for Brown that included a free throw and the Warriors scored seven unanswered in 58 seconds to take an early 13-9 advantage.
Evergreen State answered right back with a 6-0 run in the following 47 seconds to retake the lead 15-13.
Stockton hit a layup and then assisted on a Chaney 3-pointer to give Lewis-Clark State an 18-15 lead with 13:30 to go in the first half. It was the last time the lead changed in the game.
Both teams played at a breakneck pace as they combined for 71 points in just the first 12 minutes. There was 101 total points in the first half.
LC was aided by a 28-13 rebound advantage and a 23-of-42 (54.8 percent) first half shooting percentage.
The 55 points for the Warriors in the first half matched their largest total in any half this season. LC also put up 55 points in the second half of an 88-78 win on Dec 18, 2022, versus Bushnell.
The scoring did not slow down as the Warriors scored 17 points in the first six minutes of the half. While the scoring continued for LC State, the Warrior defense shut down the Geoducks to help expand the lead.
The Warriors used a 15-2 run over a 7-minute period to take a 23-point lead with 11:52 to go in the game.
"We need to be even more dialed in defensively tomorrow against a high scoring and well rested Northwest team," Johnson said.
Stockton stole the ball and was instantly fouled with 2:58 remaining and his first free throw brought LC to the century mark in points for the first time since scoring 103 against Northwest last season.
Fouls built up throughout the game as both teams reached the double bonus halfway through the second half en route to 51 combined fouls and 51 combined free throws.
Tyler Williford led Evergreen State with 19 points. Jayden Upshaw added 18, Deondre Russ had 14 and Lane Kennedy finished with 10 points before fouling out.
The Geoducks dropped to 1-14 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
