COLLEGE PLACE, Wash –
Grayson Hunt and
Sam Stockton each tallied career-highs on Tuesday to help the LC State Men's Basketball team to an 83-60 victory over Walla Walla University. Hunt scored a career-high and contest-leading 20 points, while Stockton led the game with a personal-best 10 rebounds.
With the victory, LC State is 11-11 overall and 8-8 in Cascade Conference play.
"Happy for our guys to get a road win on our third road game in five days," Head Coach
Austin Johnson said. "The guys did a good job of finding Grayson inside early on to establish some momentum. From there, we were pretty solid for the most part."
LC State opened the game with the hot hand on a 13-0 run.
Keegan Crosby got the rally started and
Davian Brown, Hunt,
John Lustig and
Silas Bennion added to the stretch that ended at 16:44.
Anthony Peoples Jr. and Bennion picked the scoring back up for the Warriors after a two-minute drought before Hunt hit three straight baskets to put LC State up 23-10 at 10:15. Hunt added another five straight points after a 3 by Bennion, and a jumper by
Oreon Courtney capped the 10-point run at 5:36 with the Warriors ahead 33-15.
Stockton and
Erick Chaney each hit a 3 before
Kai Warren drained a jumper to close the first half out with LC leading 43-23. Hunt led the first half with 15 points.
The freshman opened the second half with a pair of baskets before an and-one play by Brown pushed the lead to 50-25 at 17:45. Lustig,
Brennen Newsom, Courtney and Stockton added to the total to bring the score to 62-37 by 13:23.
A triple by Chaney kept the Warriors in front by more than 20 midway through the second half. The 3 sparked a run of seven to make it 70-44 with 8:40 to play.
Will Abram,
Joel Meske and Warren each scored in the final 3 minutes of the 83-60 victory.
Hunt led all scorers with 20 points for his career-high on an 8-for-8 night from the field. Lustig and Courtney each added eight in the contest where every Warrior scored.
Stockton pulled down a career-best 10 boards to lead the game and help LC outrebound the Wolves 42-28. Warren dished out a career-high five assists to matches Stockton for the team-lead.
The Warriors shot .642 (34-for-53) from the floor and held WWU to .348. The Wolves were just .192 (5-for-26) from 3-point range.
"Everyone contributed in every aspect which was great to see," Johnson added. "We have a big weekend at home coming up so we will need to rest up and find a way to keep improving."
