Warrior Weekly Preview - Oct. 9-15

VOLLEYBALL

The Warriors are on the road for the second straight weekend, this time taking on Bushnell and No. 5 Corban. LC State split last week’s contests with a sweep of Evergreen State to push the winning streak to four matches, then fell to Northwest in three sets.

Senior libero Kenzie Dean is on pace to move into LC State’s top four all-time in digs this weekend after collecting 32 last week to push her total to 1,553. Five will tie her for fourth all-time (1,558), with the third-place mark of 1,571 nearing. Coach Katie Palmer is second all-time with 1,585.

Warrior Volleyball takes on Bushnell on Friday at 7 p.m. in Eugene to continue the second half of the Cascade Conference season. LC fell to the Beacons in four sets in Lewiston behind 12 kills by Juliauna Forgach Aguilar. Dean dealt five aces in the match. LC State is 5-6 against Bushnell dating back to 2010.

The LC Warriors will take on the Corban Warriors on Saturday in Salem at 5 p.m. Corban took the meeting in Lewiston in three sets and has won the last seven meetings. Freshman Gianna Anderson led LC with 11 kills in the first meeting this year and Dean had 17 digs. Corban leads the CCC in hitting percentage (.263), led by Emma Bischoff’s mark of .358. Rylee Troutman is the top attacker in the conference with 4.03 kills per set. Forgach Aguilar is second with 3.83 kills per set.

CROSS COUNTRY

LC State Cross Country will host its home meet on Saturday to close out the regular season. The LC State Invitational will take place in the Lewiston Orchards at the LC State Cross Country Trail.

“Looking forward to this weekend,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “We have one opportunity to run at home most years and we really like to make the most of it if we can. We have been fortunate that a lot of good teams typically come to our meet. I think because the level of competition is high, the course is very conducive for fast times, which you want at this time of the year, and we try to produce a good product. For us, sleeping in our own beds, not eating out and having family and friends there to cheer makes a huge difference and we try to take every advantage of it that we can.”

CCC teams such as Corban and Northwest are expected to compete at the meet, as is Frontier Conference for Rocky Mountain. Corban and Northwest surpassed the LC State men in the latest NAIA poll, so wins against the pair would help the Warriors a great deal. The Rocky women are ranked ahead of the Warriors women, making for a renewed rivalry. Warrior alum Emily Handel (Adams) is on the coaching staff for the Battlin’ Bears.
