Warrior Weekly Preview - Feb. 13-19

MEN'S TENNIS

(RV) LC State Men’s Tennis split the weekend with a 4-3 loss to NCAA Division I Eastern Washington and 7-0 win over DIII Whitworth. LC has a tough week ahead of them when they travel to Georgia to take on some of the NAIA’s top teams. While in Lawrenceville, the Warriors will face No. 6 Middle Georgia State, (RV) St. Thomas (Fla.), No. 5 Xavier (La.), No. 13 Cumberland (Tenn.) and No. 8 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). 

St. Thomas defeated LC State 4-1 last season, with the one point coming from a No. 2 singles victory by Itaru Kikuchi. The Warriors are 0-3 against Xavier dating back to 2019 and fell 6-1 in 2021. LC took the doubles point in the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Kikuchi and Andy Wu competed in the action.

TRACK & FIELD

LC State Track and Field had seven records fall and 12 national standards hit at the Whitworth Invite in Spokane over the weekend. Jennah Carpenter, Madigan Kelly, Carter Gordon, Sara Hathaway and the women’s distance medley relay team each hit A standards this weekend, while London Kirk, Anika Grogan, Emily Collins, Brycen Brown, Nik Bertling and the women’s 4x400m relay team earned provisional marks in their respective events. 

Warrior Track and Field closes out the indoor regular season this weekend at the EOU NAIA Last Chance Invite in La Grande, Ore. The meet is the final opportunity for athletes to hit qualifying marks ahead of indoor nationals March 2-4.

BASEBALL

No. 2 LC State Baseball will play its home opener this weekend against (RV) UBC at Harris Field. The two teams met nine times last season with the Warriors taking eight of the meetings, including the Cascade Conference Championship and Opening Round title. LC is off to a strong start with a 4-2 record with victories over No. 4 LSU Shreveport and No. 25 Keiser (Fla.). Nick Seamons has six home runs in six games and Pu’ukani De Sa wrapped up the Florida trip with a 7-for-9 performance in a doubleheader. 

LC is 25-16 against UBC dating back to 2016 and went 8-1 last season. All of the games were played in Lewiston.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

No. 10 Warrior Women’s Basketball wrapped up its regular-season road schedule with wins over (RV) Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. LC State is tied with No. 14 Eastern Oregon at the top of the Cascade Conference standings with a 19-1 record in the CCC play heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Warriors take on Multnomah and Warner Pacific in the P1FCU Activity Center on Friday and Saturday.

LC State defeated Multnomah 69-46 earlier this season, including a dominant 26-4 second quarter. Callie Stevens led the Warriors with 17 points in the game and Maddie Holm notched a 13-rebound, 12-point double-double. Sitara Byrd claimed nine of LC’s 19 steals. The Warriors are 5-0 against the Lions dating back to 2015. 

The Warrior women beat WPU 70-52 in the first meeting of the season behind 20 points from Ellie Sander and 16 rebounds by Holm. LC is 10-0 against the Knights dating back to 2005. 

LC State is second in the NAIA and leads the CCC in field goal percentage defense (.329). The Warriors lead the conference in blocked shots per game (4.4), which ranks ninth in the NAIA, and hold the top CCC mark in steals per game (11.1), turnover margin (6.12) and assist/turnover ratio (1.3).

Sander leads the conference in steals per game (2.2) and total steals (58) and Adyson Clabby leads in assist/turnover ratio (3.8).

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The LC State Men’s Basketball team wrapped up its regular-season road slate with losses at Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech over the weekend. The Warriors host Multnomah and Warner Pacific to close out the regular season. 

Multnomah took the first meeting of the season by a final of 71-66 in Portland. John Lustig recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the contest. LC is 6-3 against the Lions dating back to 2005.

Multnomah leads the CCC in rebounding (42.4), and Tyrese Taylor leads individually with 10.0 per game. Neyland Block leads the conference in assists per game (6.2).

The Warriors fell to WPU 71-56 earlier the season despite double-digit scoring from Davian Brown (16), Grayson Hunt (13) and Silas Bennion (10). Oreon Courtney grabbed 10 board in the game. LC is 6-5 against the Knights dating back to 2004. 

Warner Pacific leads the conference in free throw percentage (.810). Thomas Miles leads the CCC in steals per game (2.3) and Darius Taylor leads in 3-point field goal percentage (.512).

With two games to play, the Warriors are fighting for a spot in the eight-team CCC postseason tournament. LC is tied for seventh with Bushnell, and Multnomah is also in the hunt for the final spot.
