LEWISTON, Idaho – Joe Canty and Dominic Signorelli came in clutch on Sunday with key hits to help No. 2 LC State earn a walk-off win over the College of Idaho. The Warriors trailed 8-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth and got the job done with two outs to earn the 9-8 victory.
Signorelli had a big day at the plate going 2-for-3 with four RBI. He launched a three-run homer in the second before knocking in the game-winnings run in the ninth. Canty tallied his first hit of the season to even the score with two outs in the final inning.
With the win, LC State is now 10-3 on the season. The series in Lewiston against C of I is non-conference.
"Ultimately, we are finding ways to win baseball games when we are still trying to discover our team identity," Head Coach Jake Taylor said.
Reigning Cascade Conference Player of the Year Jonah Hultberg put C of I on the board in the first with a solo shot. The Yotes added three more in the second to force the Warriors to the bullpen.
Signorelli brought LC State into the game with a three-run blast in the home half of the second. Sam Olsson led the inning off with a double and Eric Mast walked to put two on for Signorelli. C of I led 4-3 after two innings.
Cruz Hepburn put LC State in front in the bottom of the third with a two-run single. The freshman came to the plate with two on after a single by Olsson and walk to Mast and drove a ball to left to put the Warriors up 5-4.
C of I added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Warrior pitching miscues brought in one more in the eighth to make it 8-5.
LC State left the bases loaded in the eighth, but did not make the same mistake in the ninth.
Carter Booth wore a pitch and Jakob Marquez singled to put two on with one out. A flyout off the bat of Isaiah Thomas moved both to scoring position and Pu'ukani De Sa brought one in with a line drive up the middle.
Olsson drew a walk to load the bases with two outs and Joe Canty produced the biggest hit of his career with a two-RBI knock to left field to tie the game 8-8. Signorelli came to the plate next and sent a base hit up the middle to end the game.
De Sa had three hits on the day and Signorelli drove in a game-high four runs.
Bryson Spagnuolo earned his first win of the season after throwing the final 1.1 innings. He was the lone Warrior pitcher to not allow a run. Drake George started the game, Alex Holmes threw 3.1 innings of relief and struck out four and Jace Taylor fanned two in 2.2 innings of work.
