KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The No. 25 Lewis-Clark State Women's Golf team sits in third place after the first day of the OIT Fall Invitational at the Running Y Ranch golf course, while the No. 20 men are in fourth.
 
"It was great to get the season going today, especially with so many new faces on the team," coach Zach Anderson said. "The girls had some ups and some downs, a few things to clean up and they will be right on track."
 
Senior Kyla Currie shot a 6-over 78 to finish the opening round in a tie for eighth place. Natalia Gomez finished just outside the top ten, sitting in a tie for 11th with a round of 80. The other three Warriors finished within a shot of each other. Deana Caruso is in 16th place after shooting an 82 and Chase Caruso and Dallis Shockey are in a tie for 17th, both shooting an 83.
 
LC State has a comfortable 67-stroke lead over fourth-place Walla Walla after shooting 323 as a team, but will have some work to do to catch Oregon Tech and top-ranked British Columbia. The Owls are 10-strokes ahead of the Warriors with a team round of 313. The two-time defending national champion Thunderbirds shot a 296.
 
The Warrior men finished a shot behind Oregon Tech and sit in fourth place after the first two rounds of competition. British Columbia is lapping the field after back-to-back 10-under par team rounds. LC State shot rounds of 294 and 303.
 
"The guys had some good things go for them in the first round, but really struggled in the second," Anderson said. "Lots of work to do if we want to compete in this conference."
 
Junior transfer Alex Navarro had a strong second round with a 1-over 73 to move into the top-10, sitting in a tie for ninth. Juan Pablo Quisoboni had a 1-under 71 in his opening round before a 78 in the second round dropped him to a tie for 13th. Oscar Behle and Bryden Brown are in a tie for 15th.
