Warrior Weekly Preview - Sept. 4-10

VOLLEYBALL

The Warriors are back on the road after splitting the first full weekend of Cascade Conference play at home. LC State took Northwest to five sets before falling in a tight contest, then defeated Evergreen State in three. Warrior Volleyball holds a 2-1 record in CCC play ahead of this weekend’s trip south to Oregon Tech and No. 19 Southern Oregon.

LC State is 4-5 against Oregon Tech dating back to 2018. The Warriors took both meetings last season with a 3-2 win at OIT and a 3-0 sweep in Lewiston. The Owls are 2-7 overall and 0-2 in CCC play after facing No. 1 Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho last weekend.

“We’re excited to have our first CCC road weekend,” Palmer said. “We start off with an Oregon Tech team that we know plays with a lot of passion and they have two pin hitters that we have to contain in order to compete.”

The Warriors earned their first victory against SOU since 2009 last season in Lewiston. LC took down the powerhouse in four sets in one of the biggest victories of 2022. The Raiders took the meeting in Ashland in three sets and the CCC quarterfinal in five. Southern Oregon split the first weekend of conference play with a win over C of I and loss to top-ranked EOU.

“Southern Oregon is a special trip for me personally. Last time I was in their facility was 2009 for a play-in match to go to the national tournament. I have a deep sense of respect for the history of their program and it’s no surprise they are great team again this year,” Palmer said. “Southern Oregon can rely on any of their hitters and we’ll need to serve really tough to make them a little more predictable.”
