LEWISTON, Idaho – The Warrior Men's Tennis team saw glimpses of an exciting spring to come after a pair of matches against the University of Alberta. After defeating the Golden Bears on Friday, LC State fell to Alberta 5-2 on Saturday. Freshman Pablo Herrera had the strongest weekend of the group with three wins over the weekend.
"Just what we needed for the fall semester," Head Coach
Kai Fong said. "A pair of competitive matches against an unfamiliar opponent. Freshman Pablo Herrera was the big winner with three wins (two singles and one doubles). Very promising to see how well the freshmen performed in the matches. February cannot arrive fast enough for these players."
The Warriors dropped all three doubles matches, but not without a fight. Top doubles pair Giacomo Moreira and Gautam Balakrishnan pushed their match to a tie break before falling 7-6(7).
Austin Swing and
Alvaro Camino battled in their No. 2 doubles match to a 7-5 loss.
Herrera earned the lone full victory in the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 5 singles. Fellow freshman Moreira also earned a win at No. 2 singles after his opponent retired due to injury.
