Record-Setting Season Comes to a Close for LC State Volleyball

LEWISTON, Idaho – A season of building came to a close on Tuesday in the P1FCU Activity Center when Warrior Volleyball fell to Oregon Tech in the play-in match of the 2024 Cascade Conference Volleyball Championship tournament, presented by U.S. Bank. Junior Juliauna Forgach Aguilar wrapped up a record-setting season, while seven LC State seniors concluded their careers at home.

The Owls took the match in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21. LC State Volleyball finishes the 2024 season with a record of 15-13 overall and 12-10 in CCC play.

Forgach Aguilar shattered the single-season record for kills per set (4.60) and points per set (4.91) in one of the best offensive seasons ever by a Warrior. Natany Felix Guimaraes ended the year with the second-best digs per set rate (5.07) and fifth-most digs (543), and Forgach Aguilar ranks seventh with 488 total kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
LC State started the match with a 6-2 run on kills by Forgach Aguilar and Abby Beaton and an ace by Abbey Neff. Kills by Forgach Aguilar and Taylin Rowley pushed the advantage to 9-4, and two more by the pair had the advantage at 12-10 as OIT chipped away. A 6-2 run with kills by Karissa Lindner, Anna Merrill, Forgach Aguilar and Hallie Seaman gave the Warriors a 19-14 lead.

An ace by Katie Rainville could not hold back the Owls as OIT surged to pull ahead 22-21. Rowley tallied a pair of kills and teamed up with Lindner on a block to fuel a four-point run to end the set 25-22.

Three swings by Forgach Aguilar and one by Seaman had the Warriors up 6-5 in the second set. The teams battled back-and-forth until OIT went on a five-point run to pull ahead 18-12. Rowley put up a solo block before notching a kill to bring the Warriors within five, 20-15, and kills by Forgach Aguilar made it 22-18. Forgach Aguilar tallied a kill and Hannah Dotson dealt an ace, but OIT took the set 25-22.

LC State's first three points of the third set came from Forgach Aguilar kills. Seaman added one for a 5-4 Warrior advantage, but the Owls jumped in front 11-8. The Warriors went on an 8-2 run with tallies by Merrill, Makenzie Stout, Beaton, Forgach Aguilar and Ella Stosich to take a 16-13 lead before a surge by OIT swung the momentum back with the Owls for a 21-19 edge. Rowley and Beaton added kills before Oregon Tech took the set 25-21.

OIT maintained control with a quick 7-3 lead in the fourth frame. A block by Forgach Aguilar and two kills by Rowley brought LC State within one, 8-7, but another rally by Oregon Tech made it 14-9 in favor of the Owls. Forgach Aguilar notched four kills to pair with one by Rowley, a block by Seaman and Beaton and an ace by Dotson to cut the difference to two, 18-16, but a run by OIT made it 22-16. Seaman, Felix Guimaraes, Esther Kailiponi and Forgach Aguilar added kills to keep the season alive, but OIT took the set 25-21 to end the LC State run.
