LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State Men's Tennis team took its first loss at home in a 5-2 contest with NCAA Division I opponent Montana at the LCSC Tennis Center on Friday.
"The match and individual matches were much closer than the scores indicate," assistant coach
Tony Anegon said. "The team is getting more confident in understanding that they can play with just about anybody."
Daniel Tevez earned a win in No. 6 singles over Josh Watkins 6-3, 6-2.
Itaru Kikuchi took the win in No. 2 singles when his opponent had to retire from the match due to an injury.
Nell Rollin pushed his No. 5 singles match to a third-set modified tiebreaker, but took the loss 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
"The doubles play continues to improve and was very close," Anegon said. "In singles, the intensity was there until the last point was played. It bodes well for this team moving forward and this match gives the team something to build on."
All three doubles contests were highly contested. Kikuchi and
Matus Rusnak in the No. 1 contest and
Rafael Bonnet de Larbogne and Tevez in the No. 3 match both lost 7-5.
