Bats Stay Hot as Warriors Sweep College of Idaho

LEWISTON, Idaho – Nine different Warriors scored in a 15-3 win to complete the four-game Cascade Conference series sweep of College of Idaho on Sunday.

The win improved the Warrior record to 23-9 on the season and 13-3 in CCC play. LC is now 12-0 at Harris Field in 2024.

"Great finish today against the Yotes," coach Jake Taylor said. "We will need to carry this momentum into a great week of practice to prepare for LSU Shreveport. It's going to be an exciting homestand against one of the other top programs in the country."

Carter Booth and Pu'ukani De Sa collected four RBI each. Charlie Updegrave and Jack Sheward each had three in the game.

Booth finished the day 3-for-6 with a grand slam and double. De Sa was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Sheward smacked two doubles and Updegrave scored three times.

Hiroyuki Yamada earned the win with a five inning, seven strikeout performance to improve his season record to 3-1. Jake Green, Jadon Williamson and Zachary Ediger each recorded clean innings in relief.

The Warriors took advantage of seven walks, four batters hit by a pitch and two errors by the College of Idaho. LC State had five doubles as a team to bring the series total to 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED

For the third consecutive game the Yotes got on the board first. With two outs in the top of the first inning, Alex McFarland-Smith doubled to right center and scored on a Jack Ingraham single.

The Warriors attacked the third base line in the bottom of the second inning. After a walk to Sheward, De Sa smacked one down the line for a double to score Sheward. Bulla Ephan traded places with De Sa with a double down the line of his own and gave LC a 2-1 lead after two.

Nick Seamons saved a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Yotes had two on and two out when Ben Gaff lined one to deep left field. Seamons ran back near the track and made a jumping catch over his head to record the out and retire the side.

LC State opened things up in the fifth inning. Dominic Signorelli drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brandon Cabrera was hit by a pitch and Updegrave hit a single into left field to score Signorelli. Sheward hit a double down the left field line to score two and then scored on a De Sa single. The Warriors put up four in the inning to expand the lead to 6-1.

The offense continued to come up with big base hits in the sixth inning for the Warriors. Booth singled, Signorelli was hit by a pitch and Updegrave brought them both home with a base hit. Sheward continued LC's attack of the left field line with a double to drive in Updegrave and the advantage expanded to eight.

College of Idaho did not go away quietly and scored two runs in the eighth inning. Jackson Cummins and Chandler Stocking were both hit by a pitch and Nick Eliason loaded the bases with a single. Ingraham collected two RBI with a hit up the middle.

Noah Weintraub reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Updegrave and Sam Weber worked walks to load the bases. De Sa singled into right field to knock in two. Evan Overmars was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, and Booth cleared them with a grand slam, his fifth home run of the year, that just got over the left field wall. LC State led 15-2 going into the ninth.

Ediger closed out the contest with a 1-2-3 frame.
