Men's Basketball | 07.24.2024

LEWISTON, Idaho – Head Coach Austin Johnson announced the signings of a trio of transfers to bolster the 2024-25 LC State Men's Basketball roster. The group brings collegiate experience to a program that made its fifth appearance at the national tournament in the last six years.

Taden King will join the Warriors out of NCAA Division II Nebraska-Kearney, along with experience at North Idaho College. Kasen Carpenter is a transfer from the College of Southern Idaho and Peyton Nordland is coming off a successful career at Green River College.

"We are super excited about these three transfers," Johnson said. "We have high expectations based off their past success and also future potential. We will be a pretty young team this year with more than half of our team being freshmen and sophomores, so it was important to add some veteran experience in our transfer class. Each of these three are standouts in the classroom, in the community and on the court. They saw great value in what LC is about and how they fit. We're pumped to get them here and get to work."

Taden King – Rexburg, Idaho/Nebraska-Kearney
After spending one season in Nebraska, Rexburg, Idaho, native King is returning to his home state for his senior season. The 6-4 guard was a two-year standout at nearby North Idaho College after a stellar career at Madison High School where he was voted First-Team All-State.

"I chose to come to LC because I felt a good connection to the coaching staff and was impressed with the winning culture they've built here," King said. "I felt like it's the right fit for me to have a successful senior year and reach my potential."

"Taden is someone we have followed and recruited in both high school and junior college," Johnson explained. "We feel fortunate to have him for his senior season and for him to finish his career as an LC Warrior. He has an array of experience highlighted by helping North Idaho College to a 48-8 record during his two years there. Taden is a high IQ, versatile offensive player. He can do a bit of everything offensively and has taken steps to improve as a defender. Taden will bring added experience and maturity as one of only two seniors on our roster."

Kasen Carpenter – Rupert, Idaho/College of Southern Idaho
Carpenter helped lead NJCAA College of Southern Idaho to a 59-11 record in his two years as a Golden Eagle where he shot 40% from the 3-point line. The junior prepped at Minico High School and finished his career with 1,028 points which ranks fifth in school history. He was voted First-Team All-State and also played baseball and football.

"I chose LC because I wanted to be put in a position to win, and LC has a history of that," Carpenter said. "The coaching staff played role in my decision. I felt the coaches here will help me achieve the goals that I have as a player. Lastly, my wife and I are from Southern Idaho and Lewiston attracted us as soon as we stepped on campus. We are excited about the opportunity."

"Kasen is another in-state transfer that will bring great intangibles and experience," Johnson added. "During his time at CSI he was a part of a program that went 59-11 as well as an NJCAA National Tournament appearance. He is an excellent shooter and we expect him to help create a lot of space for our post players and drivers. Kasen was limited by injuries, but in the games he was able to play he averaged more than two made 3s per game at more than 42%. As much as we expect Kasen to have an immediate impact, we also think he has a lot more room to grow as a player which is exciting."

Peyton Nordland – Renton, Wash./Green River College
Nordland averaged 15.5 points and 5.1 assists per game for Green River College last season and shot over 40% from the field and 3-point range. He made nearly 50% of his field goals and helped the Gators to the 2024 NWAC title with a 27-6 record. The Renton, Wash., native was voted Second-Team All-NWAC and Second-Team All-NWAC Tournament.

"I chose LC because of the opportunity to win on the court while furthering my education and getting my degree," Nordland said. "I felt at home on my visit and really enjoyed being around the team."

"Peyton is coming off of a special two-year career at Green River College, capped off by winning the 2024 NWAC Tournament Championship," Johnson said. "During that two-year stretch GRC went 50-12. Peyton has a winning pedigree and knows how to help get the most out of his teammates. We expect Peyton to be able to play both on and off the ball and add some veteran experience to our backcourt. He is a player that showed he can create for others with more than five assists per game and also be successful off the ball with 52 made 3s at over 40%."
