Warrior Weekly Preview - Sept. 9-15, 2024

GOLF

Warrior Golf kicks off the 2024-25 season on Monday at the Bushnell Invitational at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Ore. The tournament is the first Cascade Conference event of the season and the first of the year for a veteran men’s roster and fresh women’s lineup.

CROSS COUNTRY

LC State Cross Country is back in action on Friday at the Cougar Classic. The second meet of the season will be hosted by Washington State in Colfax, Wash. The Warriors are coming off of a strong showing at the Clash of the Inland Northwest, highlighted by the No. 13 LC State men defeating NCAA Division I Idaho and No. 14 Warrior women’s runner Grace Tiegs earning CCC Runner of the Week honors. 

The Warrior men placed fifth at the Cougar Classic last season with Carter Gordon as the top NAIA finisher in 15th place (24:57.4). The LC State women finished fourth as a team with Tiegs, the top returner from last year’s race, in 30th place (23:37.9).

The women will race the 6k at 4 p.m. with the men’s 8k to follow at 4:45 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Warrior Volleyball (6-3, 3-1) continues its road swing on Friday and Saturday after earning a pair of victories last weekend. LC State edged Northwest (Wash.) 3-2 on the Eagles’ home court before cruising past Evergreen State (Wash.) 3-0. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar averaged 4.50 kills per set and Esther Kailiponi dealt 5.00 assists per set in the wins. LC State will face Warner Pacific (Ore.) (0-3, 0-2) on Friday before wrapping up the trip on Saturday at Multnomah (Ore.) (0-6, 0-2). The two Portland teams will face off on Tuesday ahead of the weekend matchups. 

LC State is 10-0 against Warner Pacific since 2010 and swept both meetings last season. Forgach Aguilar led the contest in Portland last season with 16 kills and Abbey Neff dished out 16 assists. The Warriors hit .313 as a team and held WPU to a mark of .000. 

Warrior Volleyball is 9-0 against Multnomah since 2010 and outlasted the Lions in a five-setter in Portland a year ago. Karissa Lindner and Forgach Aguilar each tallied 11 kills, Kailiponi dealt 20 assists and Natany Felix Guimaraes collected 30 digs. 

Forgach Aguilar currently ranks eighth in the NAIA in kills per set (4.50) and 13th in points per set (4.7).
