No. 5 Corban Outlasts No. 12 LC State Volleyball in Halloween Battle

LEWISTON, Idaho – Friday's Halloween battle of the Warriors finished in favor of No. 5 Corban (Ore.) in four sets. No. 12 LC State Volleyball fell to the visiting Warriors by set scores of 29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 25-10.
 
The loss has the LC State record at 15-5 overall and 12-5 in Cascade Conference play, while Corban improved to 20-4, 14-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
LC State took a quick 2-0 lead after a kill by Juliauna Forgach Aguilar got the night started. Corban answered with a run of four to take a slim advantage before a back-and-forth ensued. A kill by Taylor Boyce was followed by a block by Forgach Aguilar and Abby Beaton to tie the set 10-10, and kills by the pair had the LC State lead at 12-11.
 
Boyce and Beaton went back-to-back with kills to put the hosting Warriors in front 18-16, and Beaton tallied a kill before a block with Teagan Scott at 21-18. Kills by Boyce, Hannah Dotson and Forgach Aguilar had the LC State advantage at 24-22, but Corban rallied to push the set into extra points. Karissa Lindner, Forgach Aguilar and Boyce added kills, but Corban surged to take the frame 29-27.
 
Swings by Forgach Aguilar, Alba Carpena, Beaton, Scott and Lindner gave LC State a 9-8 edge in the second set, and a block by Carpena and Lindner and kill by Carpena had the margin at 12-10.
 
Corban responded to take a 16-14 lead, but a swing by Boyce sparked a run of five straight LC State points with tallies from Scott, Beaton and Forgach Aguilar to put the LC Warriors ahead 19-16. Forgach Aguilar and Lindner each added kills and Ella Stosich and Esther Kailiponi dealt aces to seal the 25-21 set win for LC State.
 
LC State started with the hot hand in the third frame after Lindner and Forgach Aguilar teamed up for a block before each notched a kill for a 4-0 lead. Corban answered with a run of six points but kills by Forgach Aguilar and Lindner evened the score 7-7. Stosich dealt another ace for a 12-11 edge as kills by Forgach Aguilar and Boyce kept the score close. A solo block by Carpena knotted the frame 18-18 and an ace by Makenzie Stout made it 21-21. Beaton added a kill by Corban took the set 25-22.
 
The Corban Warriors maintained control in the fourth frame with a dominant 25-10 win. LC State tallied points with kills by Forgach Aguilar, Beaton and Boyce and blocks by Carpena, Lindner and Forgach Aguilar.
 
STAT RECAP
Forgach Aguilar led LC State with 17 kills and Beaton added 11 with a .381 attack percentage. Boyce notched nine kills and Lindner tallied seven. Scott dished out 37 assists.
 
Lindner led the contest with five blocks, Forgach Aguilar added four and Beaton had three. Stosich anchored the back row with 12 digs and Stout collected 10.
 
Corban's Emma Bischoff led the match with 18 kills, Makayla Roginski notched 16 and Kendra Bittle added 14. Bischoff had a big night with three aces and a match-high 15 digs. Abby Guindy led Corban with 29 assists.
 
UP NEXT
LC State closes out the regular-season home schedule on Saturday at 4 p.m. against No. 20 Bushnell (Ore.). The Warriors will honor seniors Beaton, Kailiponi and Forgach Aguilar before the match.
