Warrior Men's Tennis Topples Division I Sacramento State in Thrilling Fashion

LEWISTON, Idaho – LC State Men's Tennis, receiving votes in the NAIA poll earned a hard fought 4-3 victory over NCAA Division I opponent Sacramento State to open the weekend. The win is the first over a DI program since the Warriors defeated Gonzaga in Lewiston in 2003.
 
The Warriors started the match with a win in No. 1 doubles when f Nell Rollin and Pablo Herrera won their match 6-3. In No. 3 doubles, the sophomore duo of Gautam Balakrishnan and Giacomo Moreira defeated their opponents 6-2 to secure the doubles point for LC State.
 
In No. 2 singles, Herrera handled his opponent 6-2 in the first set and closed it out in the second set with a 6-3 win to secure his match and the point for the Warriors.
 
After the Hornets earned two points back with wins in No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Balakrishnan battled to a victory in No. 5 singles. He won the first set 7-6(8-6) and closed it out with a 6-3 win in the second.
 
In No. 6 singles, sophomore Cesar Coloma had a gritty win against his opponent. He took the first set 6-2, then dropped the second set 6-3. In the third set he roared back with a 6-4 win to clinch his singles win and propel the Warriors to victory.
 
UP NEXT
The Warrior men are back in action on March 15 against Division I opponent Idaho State at the Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
