GLENDALE, Ariz. – LC State Men's Tennis, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, opens postseason action on Friday as the No. 2-seed in the GSAC Tournament. The Warriors will face the winner of third-seeded Stanton (Calif.) and sixth-seeded Northern New Mexico at 10 a.m. at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.
The Warriors have never faced either opponent.
LC State is 4-3 against NAIA competition this season and 1-1 against teams from the GSAC. The Warriors dropped a contest against No. 21 Arizona Christian but defeated Ottawa (Ariz.) on the first trip to Arizona this season. LC State also picked up a marquee victory over then-No. 13 Missouri Baptist to conclude the regular season.
Louam Boivin was voted All-GSAC after a solid first season with the Warriors. He earned five singles victories in the top half of the LC State lineup.
Giacomo Moreira leads the team in singles wins this season with seven, including four at No. 3 singles.
Gautam Balakrishnan,
Leonel Gatti and
Nell Rollin are just behind Moreira with six singles wins each.
Balakrishnan has been superb in doubles action for the Warriors with a 9-2 record. The sophomore is 9-1 at No. 3 doubles and 3-0 when paired with Gatti.
Pablo Herrera, Moreira and Rollin have also found success in doubles action with seven wins each.
The winner of the match will take on the winner of top-seeded ACU and its opponent (to be determined), on Saturday at 10 a.m.
