Canfield Deals, Zeller Delivers as No. 5 LC State Downs Warner Pacific

LEWISTON, Idaho – The No. 5 LC State Baseball team opened the final weekend of the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Warner Pacific (Ore.) on Friday. Evan Canfield worked eight stellar innings on the mound and Spencer Zeller drove in three of the Warriors' five runs.

The win moves the LC State record to 35-7 on the season and 27-7 in Cascade Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Canfield needed two pitches to get the first two outs of the contest and just eight in the first frame.

The Warriors did not waste time taking an early lead. Noah Weintraub and Bryce Johnson earned free passes before a two-out error on a ball hit by Sam Weber drove in a run. Zeller added on with a two-RBI single for a 3-0 advantage.

Canfield faced the minimum in the second and LC State added a run in the home half of the inning. Ryan Prescott doubled off the wall in center and came around to score on a hit by Brandon Nguyen.

Warner Pacific struck for a run in the third on a pair of hits, but LC State got the run back in the Warrior half of the fourth on a solo shot by Zeller.

Bryce Johnson cut down a runner at the plate to keep WPU off the board in the seventh and Canfield tossed a scoreless eighth inning.

The Warriors went to the bullpen in the ninth with reliever Jordan Lennartson. The junior gave up one run but minimized the damage to keep LC State in front.

STAT RECAP
Zeller led LC State at the plate with two hits and three RBI, and Prescott added two hits of his own.

Canfield earned his seventh win of the season after eight solid innings on the mound. He struck out six batters without a walk and gave up one run. Lennartson fanned one in his frame.

UP NEXT
LC State continues the series with WPU on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon at Harris Field.
