LE MARS, Iowa – No. 20 LC State Men's Golf completed day one at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational, held at Willow Creek Golf Club, on Monday.
Andrea Artusini leads the way for the Warriors as he sits in a four-way tie for eighth place individually after a stellar day on the course.
No. 7 Ottawa (Ariz.) finished day one atop the team leaderboard with a score of 16-under. The Warrior men sit in 12
th place in the stacked field that includes eight NAIA Top 25 teams.
Artusini was 6-under for the day. He shot 2-under, 69, in round one, and a disciplined 4-under, 67 in round two.
"Andrea was a bright spot today. He has a chance to climb tomorrow if he continues this caliber of play," coach
Zach Anderson said.
Junior
Lucas Ortega shot a 2-under, 69 in round one, and a 2-over, 73 in round two for an even-par day. He is tied for 31
st.
Freshman
Archie Jones and senior
Luke West sit in a tie for 64th through the first 36 holes of competition. Jones carded 6-over, 77 in round one and 3-over, 74 in round two. West shot 8-over, 79 in round one and 1-over, 72 in round two.
Hunter Millsap is one stroke off the Warriors in front of him. The senior carded 7-over, 78 in round one and 3-over, 74 in round two for a 10-over total.
"Disappointing day for the men," Anderson added. "Execution was pretty poor, among other things. We just didn't put the ball in the right places off the tee, and when we did, we didn't capitalize. Hoping to end the tournament on a better note tomorrow."
UP NEXT
The Warrior men take on the final day of competition at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational on Tuesday. Players will tee off at 6:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start.
