LA GRANDE, Ore. – No. 11 LC State Volleyball faced its toughest test yet on Friday with a Cascade Conference match against No. 1 Eastern Oregon. The top-ranked Mountaineers swept the Warriors by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-19.
LC State had the edge in the contest in blocks and aces, but a .350 attack percentage favored EOU to move the Warrior record to 11-2 on the season at 5-2 in CCC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Taylor Boyce started the match with a kill before a kill by
Hadyn Smith helped LC State out to a 3-2 edge. Swings by
Karissa Lindner,
Mikale Roy and
Jordynn Albright had the lead at 6-5, and points from Roy,
Kendall Focht and
Ashlyn Watt made it 10-6. After a kill by Smith had the advantage at 13-12, EOU rallied to take a 20-15 lead. A pair of kills by Lindner cut the difference to 21-18, and back-to-back swings by Boyce had the Warriors within one, 24-23, but Eastern Oregon finished off the set 25-23.
Kills by Boyce and a solo block by Lindner helped the Warriors keep pace early in the second frame. Back-to-back kills by Smith had LC State behind 10-8 and a block by Lindner and Boyce kept the difference at two points. EOU surged to pull away 20-13 before a block by Lindner and Boyce and ace by
Makenzie Stout cut the margin to 24-20. The Mounties took the frame 25-20.
Eastern Oregon had momentum in the third set and jumped in front 10-4. Kills by
Aubree Lane and Roy, as well as a block by Albright, cut the margin to 11-7, but EOU surged again for a 17-10 lead over the Warriors. Kills by Roy and Lane and service aces by Watt and Stout had the deficit at 21-17, but EOU closed out the contest with a 25-19 win in the set.

Boyce led the contest with four blocks while
Addison Wilson and Lindner each had three. Watt and Stout led the match with two aces each.
Roy led the Warriors with 11 kills and Boyce added eight.
Teagan Scott dished out 16 assists and
Kendall Focht had 12.
Ella Stosich collected eight digs and Stout had seven.
LC State had seven blocks compared to five by EOU, and the Warriors served five aces. EOU hit .350 in the match with just 11 attack errors.
