LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State Golf made history last season as both teams returned to the national tournament for the first time since 2017 and the Warrior men brought home the program's first Cascade Conference title. The LC State men and women enter the 2026-27 season ranked in the NAIA Top 25 and both bring a lot of momentum into the new campaign.
The women checked in at No. 16 in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 after finishing in the top half at the national tournament in the spring. The Warriors made the cut at nationals for the first time since 2014 and return all but one student-athlete that appeared in the postseason. The men are ranked No. 20 as the reigning CCC champions.
"Last year was an awesome year for our program, but most importantly we have to move forward and know that last year is not this year," coach
Zach Anderson said. "New players, new coaches and new tournament schedule show that. But these athletes are hungry for more success since they got to taste it last year. The motivation is there, but it is all about sticking true to our culture of what's important now."
LC State added depth to its rosters with what Anderson describes as potentially his best signing class to date. The fifth-year head coach was voted the CCC Coach of the Year for the third time last season. Anderson added to the staff this offseason when former Warrior
Bryden Brown was named the program's first full-time assistant coach. Brown was a standout at LC State before he transferred to finish his career at NCAA Division I California Baptist. The Moscow native came home this fall to help guide the Warriors back to the national tournament.
"Bryden will be a huge help to all aspects of this program," Anderson explained. "As a former player, we have that connection already, so we didn't need to go through that period of time of getting to know each other, he knows how I operate and vice versa. I am excited to see what we can accomplish with him a part of the program in a different role."
On the women's side, the Warriors return All-Cascade Conference performers
Isabella Barquet and
Taylor Mire. Both finished in the top 10 in conference scoring average last season. Barquet headlines the group of seniors that includes
Chase Caruso and
Natalia Gomez. Mire is the lone sophomore on the team after a stellar start to her collegiate career last season.
LC State also returns a talented pair of juniors in
Giulia Belfontali and
Jane Barry. Both had standout seasons in 2025-26 as each brought home individual wins. Belfontali earned a pair of victories and capped her season with a hole-in-one at the national tournament. Barry earned medalist honors for the first time in her career last spring.
The Warrior women added three freshmen to the roster in Idaho State Champion
Kamryn Mansfield out of Grace, Idaho, and international student-athletes
Alice Mattsson (Sweden) and
Paola Sakota (South Africa).
On the men's side, the Warriors return All-CCC competitors
Luke West and
Adam Lovatt. The pair were two of the best in the conference in scoring average last season.
Lucas Ortega, who earned All-Cascade Conference honors in 2025, is back for his junior season after missing the final stretch of 2026 with an injury. LC State has depth with defending CCC medalist
Andrea Artusini on the roster, as well as seniors
Aaron Brown and
Hunter Millsap.
The Warriors added to that depth with four freshmen.
Carson Clinton and
Bryce Johnson join LC State from Washington, while
Archie Jones and
Josh Robinson round out the group with international experience out of England.
"One of our larger classes since I have been here, but also one of the most talented groups," Anderson said. "They are already showing the high caliber of play in our practices. The returning class is stacked as well. They have the experience from last year and we are working to take what they learned on the national level and build that into their preparation this year."
LC State opens the season at the Oregon Tech Fall Invitational, which counts towards Cascade Conference standings, Sept. 7-8 before a trip to Iowa for the Northwest Iowa National Invitational. The Warriors will see familiar faces from the national tournament in Le Mars, Iowa, in a field full of some of the NAIA's top teams.
"The NWIA NIT in Iowa is definitely one of our most important events of the fall," Anderson said. "It has stacked fields with several top-ranked teams from all over the country. We are excited to return as one of the teams ranked on both the men's and women's side."
The Warrior Fall Invitational, another CCC-counting tournament, is set for Oct. 12-13 at the Lewiston Golf & Country Club before LC State wraps up the fall at the OUAZ Gold Mountain Invite Oct. 26-27 in Bremerton, Wash.
