MILWAUKEE – Sean Halton became the 15th alumnus of the Lewis-Clark State College baseball program to appear in Major League Baseball on Thursday, singling in a pinch-hit at-bat for the Milwaukee Brewers in a game against the Chicago Cubs. Watch a video of Halton's first career hit here.

Halton starred at LCSC in 2008 and 2009, after which he was drafted by Milwaukee in the 13th round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The first baseman-outfielder was an NAIA honorable mention All-American following his senior campaign, and hit 25 home runs in his LCSC career.

"He was always a very tough kid, physically and mentally," former LCSC coach Ed Cheff said of Halton, whom he recruited out of Fresno, Calif. and Fresno City College. "He was a great teammate, and between those things, that's what they're looking for in pro ball. Plus he can flat-out hit for power. He's a great guy and I'm very happy for him." 

Halton played the last seven seasons in the Brewers' minor league system, working his way up from rookie ball to Double-A Huntsville by 2011.

He played a full season with Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate in Nashville in 2012 and was hitting .288 with nine homers and 35 RBI for the Sounds when he was called up to the big club on Wednesday.

Halton, who is expected to play both first base and left field for the Brewers, pinch-hit for starting pitcher Wily Peralta in the bottom of the fifth inning, and smacked a 95 mph fastball from Cubs' pitcher Matt Garza into left field for a clean single.

Halton advanced to third, but was stranded to end the inning.

Halton is the first LCSC player to advance to the majors since Carlos Fisher came up with the Cincinnati Reds in 2009.
