LEWISTON, Idaho –
Jeremy Franklin had a career night Friday with 32 points off a near-perfect shooting effort to lead Lewis-Clark State College men's basketball team to a 92-66 victory over Portland Bible College in the Clearwater River Casino and Lodge Classic at the LC Activity Center.
"He came out of the gates and had it cooking early," coach
Brandon Rinta said. "That was a great offensive output by him but he had a great all-around game. He was super efficient."
Super efficient as in adding seven rebounds and three assists to his 12-of-14 field goal (four-of-six from 3-point range) shooting. He also was four-of-five from the line. While his 32 points stood out so, too, did Damek Mitchell's nine assists, the Warriors' second-half defense and some high-flying dunks off alley-oop passes that brought the crowd to its feet.
"Especially in the second half, I thought our guys did a good job," Rinta said. "We were a little more solid. That let us defend at a higher level."
The Warriors never trailed but they did see an early 17-4 lead dwindle to 10 points for the latter part of the first half and into the second before LCSC took control and dominated the final 20 minutes 48-32.
As a team, the Warriors shot 59.7 percent (37 of 62) from the field and 52.2 percent (12 of 23) from 3-point range. A number that was particularly impressive to their head coach, were the 26 assists.
"Our guys did a really good job tonight," Rinta said. "That's where we want to be offensively. I really liked the tempo."
Cory Dollarhide was the only other Warrior to reach double figures with 13 points. Rebounding was similarly even among the team with Franklin's seven a high with
Race Martin grabbing six as LC built a 36-27 edge on the boards.
