LEWISTON, Idaho. – The Lewis-Clark State women's basketball team rebounded from Friday night's first loss of the year, and nearly doubled its offensive output, defeating the College of Idaho 86-49 in the finale game of the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic in the LCSC Activity Center.
The Warriors, after scoring just 49 total points in their previous game, scored exactly that amount in the first half against the Coyotes, leading 49-28 at intermission. LC allowed the Coyotes just 21 second-half points, and improved to 4-1 on the season. With the loss, the College of Idaho dropped to 0-3.
The Warriors used eight 3-point shots in the first half to build their lead, and finished with 10 treys, four of them coming from
Lauren Johnson. Johnson led LC with 16 points, and six assists. Warrior freshman Peyton Souvenir added 12 points, and
Jossilyn Blackman 10. Kiara Burlage, another freshman, had a team-high 11 rebounds.
LC Coach
Brian Orr was happy with the effort.
"The freshman are picking up the system very quickly," he said. "We played with a lot more confidence tonight."
The Warrior bench outscored their opponents 32-15, with freshman reserve
Hannah Burland contributing 11 points and seven rebounds.
"We had great defensive communication," Orr said, noting LC held the Coyotes to just 27 percent from the floor (17-63), and forced 25 turnovers.
College of Idaho shot just 18 percent (6-33) from the floor in the second half.
For the game, the Warriors shot 45 percent from the field (29-64), and made of 17-of-20 free throws.
Alyssa Case led the Yotes in scoring with 12 points, and Lindy Westendorf pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for the visitors.
The Warriors next action is Saturday, when they take on Northwest College at 2 p.m. in the Activity Center.
