The Lewis-Clark State women's basketball team recorded its second straight 30-point victory Saturday by defeating Northwest University, 87-52, at the LC Activity Center.
Â
The second-ranked Warriors jumped out to a 21-8 first quarter lead and extended it to 43-18 at halftime. The Eagles, from Kirkland, Wash., made just seven-of-32 first half shots, 22 percent, while the Warriors hit 46 percent both halves. LC (5-1) outrebounded Northwest 43-37 and added 13 steals to drop the Eagles to 1-5.
Â
"Our defense was pretty good, but we gave them too many second and third opportunities under their basket," Warrior coach
Brian Orr said.
Â
Senior
Lauren Johnson was one-of-four Warriors scoring in double digits with a career-high 20 points. Johnson was 7-11 from the field, which included three 3-point shots.Â
Jansen Edmiston added 13 points, and Peyton Souvenir and
Brittany Tackett each had 11. LC hit a scorching 24-of-28 free throws, and all but one Warrior scored. Every Warrior player saw at least eight minutes of game time.Â
Â
"We have some players battling back problems, so it is good to get some players rest," Orr said. "But, we do need to get healthy, and set up our rotations."Â
Â
Northwest shot 30 percent from the field for the game, and LC's defense forced 19 turnovers. Northwest pulled down 13 offense rebounds, and attempted nine more shots than LC. Miranda Langenhorst led NU with 10 rebounds, and 17 points.
Â
LC's next action will be at home, Wednesday at 5:30 PM, against Whitworth University at the Activity Center.Â
